Academy High School

Coach Linda Barganier (Head Girls Track) » Welcome!

I am beginning my twenty-third year of teaching and coaching at Academy High School. My thirty-four years of teaching/coaching experience include a two-year stint at Buckholts, my high school alma mater, and ten years at Troy. During my career, I have taught English I and II, and I have been the head volleyball and girls’ track coach as well as assistant basketball coach. In my first year at Troy, I was the assistant coach for the Trojanettes' AA state basketball championship team. I made the move to Academy when my husband became the athletic director here in 1994. My family is and has always been highly invested in Academy schools, extracurricular activities, and community. Both of my children were K-12 students here, and Academy ISD had been home for forty-one years for Grady, my husband of forty years. Having served in various capacities as teacher and coach during that time, he is now enjoying retirement. Both Luke and Caitlin, our children, are teachers and coaches as well. Education and an appreciation for learning is a strong commitment in our family.

I currently teach all sophomore students in both English II and Pre-AP English II. I am committed to making believers of them that reading and writing are life skills and not just one class’s assignments. The way we communicate has the potential to shape our lives.

Until 2014, I have had dual head coaching duties for my career here at Academy (as well as at Buckholts and Troy) in both volleyball and girls' track. In my last season as head volleyball coach in 2013, those Lady Bees produced my 500th career win as well as a play-off season. My 2005 and 2006 teams reached the regional finals and semi-finals respectively, and I’m especially proud of all the banners in the gym extolling the teams and players who created a solid playoff tradition. I'm continuing my role as head girls' track coach and look forward to another successful season. Many of the high school track and field records have been set and broken repeatedly with these hard-working young ladies throughout the past twenty-plus seasons. Their team accomplishments and personal regional and state finishes are also recognized on signs in the gym. I count all these young ladies in our athletic programs among my many blessings. I continue to challenge our Lady Bees to "Go for the Gold!"

I am appreciative of the many life-long friends I have made through my experiences in both athletics as well as the classroom. Here's wishing all our students an outstanding 2016-17!
